Finding local disability resources

Where to find agencies, centers and people near you.

Places to start

Your state developmental disability agency, Parent Training and Information Center, Protection and Advocacy organization and your local Area Agency or Center for Independent Living can all point you to services.

School transition coordinators and your family member's current providers often know what exists locally.

Tips

Keep a simple contact log of who you spoke with, when, and what they said.

Ask every contact: what else should we be doing, and who else should we talk to?

Questions worth asking

  • Which local agencies should we contact first?
  • What should we ask when we call?
